Going Into A Custom Home Bar Mirror Daydream
Slowly I moved down the Berber carpet stairway carefully holding onto the railing. Approaching the lower level bar I stared at myself momentarily in the different personalized bar mirrors . Etched into the bottom of the mirror was the phrase, "Life is a party". Will it never stop? Will the enjoyment never stop? It had been a great evening. Some buddies had gathered at my spot to share a meal, some memories, and a few drinks.
I spot an exhausted middle-aged man staring back at me from the bar mirror and question my desire for a nightcap. I plopped down onto the sofa and flipped on the TV. I found a home improvement show, which has always been calming to look at. It must have been very calming because I soon fell into a deep sleep. I began to dream shortly. Nothing except shoddy workmanship all over the place. He began to lead me around my own home, mentioning the things he liked and what needed to be substituted. He starts to scrape the ceiling with his hammer. Holmes catches hold of chunks of ceiling pieces and throws them my way. He stepped on to next room, leading me around as though I didn't reside there. We were standing in front of my home-based bar. David Bromstad, title-holder of season 1 Design Star and anchor of Color Splash: Miami, all of a sudden appears at the bar. "I'll have to try it out before I make my final decision," he said. I poured two good measures of whiskey over ice and gave him one of the glasses.
He took a mouthful from his drink and gazed around the bar. As Holmes commences whipping up the pina colada Genevieve Gorder from HGTV's "Dear Genevieve" show appears out of the bathroom with a paint roller in one hand, a roll of blue painter's tape in the other and a cigarette hanging out of her mouth. Pointing to the walls, he began to list the colors emerging in mind. The dream shifted gears quickly, and the next thing I knew, we were standing side by side, painting the walls with oversized paintbrushes. We painted the first wall very quickly and walked on to the others, now painting them lively yellow. She stops at the bar where Mike Holmes is handing David Bromstad his drink. He raised his glass and said, "A toast to the fastest painters in the world."
Suddenly, I am very aware that I am in the attendance of a great interior designer, and that my house is not prepared for his critical eye. Not having this season's trendiest paint colors on my walls was the least of my worries. Even though I was dreaming, I felt abashed by my home's old-fashioned décor. Genevieve tosses back her tequila. "This bar mirror is incredible," he stated, stopping to take a good look at it. "Is that a glass etching" I told him I had styled the etching especially for this mirror. "A special touch like this individualized bar mirror really makes this a personal space." Unexpectedly, for some reason, he pulled a chainsaw out from behind his back and slashed the bar in half. He didn't seem worried about what he was executing at all. I recognized that I was donning goggles and a hardhat.
A voice enigmatically appears out of the blue. "Will Genevieve and David pick the first house, the three bedroom rambler with the big lawn; or the second house fixer upper for $800,000 or the third house, the split level with a sawed-in-half bar and personalized bar mirrors."
I hear my wife's voice telling, "Wake up, honey." I notice my wife is starting to flip off the TV as I come out of my strange dream. "No, I need to watch what house they chose!" I stated. She seemed confused for a moment. "Oh, House Hunters…they picked the third house."
As I headed off to bed, I realized it was the personalized bar mirrors that had tipped the scales.
